Thankful Thursday (My favorites)

I think most people know that saying.  In fact, I think most people have heard that saying, or perhaps have even said it to themselves when the going gets hard.

What I wanted to write about today is Serenity.  To find peace, or tranquility, has got to be one of the hardest things in the world.  I often look at people and think, do they really have it together or are the about to crack, under the surface.

I have always been one of those surface people.  On the outside, I like to think, I keep it together.  But usually on the inside I am stressed, shaken, tired, unsure, and a bit broken.  What I like to remind myself of is, even though I have a lot to be worried about, I should find a place of serenity each and every day.

It is hard to quite ones mind.  My mind never seems to shut down, especially when I am trying to relax. If you have read Eat, Pray, Love, the part that made me laugh was when she was trying to learn to meditate.  I could relate to this because my mind just keeps going.

Even thought I posted a quote that is a direction toward a god, I don't have many spiritual or religious beliefs anymore.  This is not a religious post, nor am I trying to stir up that conversation.  Whether you believe in a higher power, or not, I do believe that everyone should find a quite moment to get closer to knowing serenity.

This notion, I think, is not one where you can constantly live.  The reason I say that is because, well, life happens.  Life is chaotic and messy and the opposite of serene, that is why I think it feels so good to look towards it.  I look on it like a comfortable bed, or a listening ear.  Something where I can let go of the daily grind, and just feel good in the quite.

I am thankful for serenity.  I am thankful when I get a moment to reflect.
