Name: Angela Lexow
Age: 39
Occupation: Artist/Yoga instructor
Age you got your first tattoo: 1st tatt at 36 years old
Favorite tattoo: henna piece
Featured tattoo location: arm/shoulder
Artist / Shop / Location: Tatts by Looking Glass Tattoo and Gallery (Judith White and Chris Lyon)

Please tell us about your featured tattoo:
I chose henna/mehndi because many years ago a friend of mine and I used to give her mother’s spa clients henna tattoos during open house days. We had them too and I never wanted them to fade away!  The newest part going down my arm in still in progress.
Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?
Other tatts- The half sleeve is connected all the way up my shoulder and around to my shoulder blade. I also have a Celtic mandala tattoo on my lower back.  That one has several meanings that are very personal.
Do you plan on getting more?
Yes, I plan on more!  Going to continue the half sleeve to the inside of my arm. I will probably do something else on my back from the Celtic tattoo.

How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them?
My friends are fine with my tattoos and many have their own. My family?  lol – that is another story.... My dad shrugs his shoulders and says “whatever! I don’t get it but its your body!” My mom DESPISES them and won’t even speak of them to me.  She talks to my husband, kids, friends about them, but not me. I guess she is trying to avoid an argument (?) She did tell my sons, “back in my day only people in biker gangs got tattoos!”  Lol – My kids told her things have changed A LOT.  Occasionally I get a dirty look, usually from older women, but I just shrug it off.
What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos?
Most interesting experience? – Because I am an artist, my studio is open every First Friday.  I usually wear something that shows my tatts.  I have had many women tell me they don’t usually like tattoos, but mine is tasteful  I also had a 80 year old lady ask me once where I get my work done. Then she proceeded to tell me where she has gotten all 8 of her tattoos done!
Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?
Advice? – Research shops and tattoo artists before you get a tattoo.  Be sure you like the work done there and that they are clean and safe.  Try to find a tattoo artist that is truly an artist (creating more than just tattoos).  Then you can  take a general idea of what you want in, and let them add their touch to it – it becomes  a piece of art on your body.

What is your least favorite part of being tattooed? Do you have any stories/advice to people who are not tattooed?
My least favorite part of getting a tattoo is the healing – especially the “itch” stage!!  You have to try so hard not to touch it but it is crazy itchy!

Story to learn from – I decided to get my first tattoo without researching shops and artists. I just chose the only one I knew of in town.  When I went in, the artist seemed irritated to talk to me about my tattoo, but told me he would have a drawing in a week. I went back in a week and it was not done.  They said come back in 2 days. When I went back 2 days later, it was still not done.  He said come back tomorrow.  When I went in the next day he had a giant “drawing” done that was the outline of 3 fish in a circle (it did NOT look Celtic, it looked like a sportsman’s tattoo).  Being an artist, I went home and drew exactly what he drew in 5 minutes. I decided not to go back to him and that shop and just wait.  About a year later I was introduced to Looking Glass tattoo.  They are all amazing artists and made me feel comfortable and at ease RIGHT away.  That is the only place I will get my ink now.  And I am sure to tell everyone who asks they need to go there too.

Celebrating the Season

I love this magical time of year!  It is not my very very favorite, as Halloween takes that cake, but I do love all the tradition that the end of the year holidays hold.  Decorating for Christmas has always been a big, big event in my house.  Growing up, we always put a lot of thought and energy into really having a good time, as a family, and making it special.

Most of my mothers collectable would come down, off the shelves, and holiday decor would go up in it's place.  We always had a real christmas tree that, as a family, we would go get.  I loved having the scent of pine/evergreen in our house throughout the month of December.  When my brother and I found the perfect tree, my dad would load it up, we would take it home and then the decorating began! My dad and mom had a pretty stellar collection of holiday vinyls that would be put on while we decorated the tree.

Sometimes with the hustle and bustle of this time of year, it is so easy to forget about these small memories and how they help shape who you are.  I still hold decorating a christmas tree is super high regard.  I love how it reminds me of the fun I had growing up, and I also love how it allows me, as an adult to have a curated collection of what goes on my tree now.

A big part of this season's celebration is wrapped around the notion of children, or families with children, so sometimes I think it is a little hard, as a small family (myself and the mr.) that doesn't have children to make our own traditions, however slowly but surely we are finding things that are sentimental and magical that helps us celebrate in our own way with our very untraditional family.

I can't wait to share with you all some of our favorite new traditions over the next few week and hope to hear about some of the ways you like to end your year!

Stay Sweet,
Katty

Name: Evan Rogers
Age: 29
Occupation: Correctional Officer
Age of first tattoo: 25
Favorite tattoo: The Elvis themed sleeve I'm working on right now.
Featured tattoo/location: Virgin Mary with sacred heart and rosary leg sleeve.
Artist/Shop/Location: Joey Trent at Hearts of Fire in Springfield, MO.

Please tell us about your featured tattoo 1. There really isn't a special meaning.  It just happened to be art that I thought would be beautiful, and that I thought would look good.  It doesn't get any deeper than that.  I'm not sold on the idea that ALL of your tattoos must have profound meaning, or a cool story, but I respect those that do, and I even have some meaningful art in other pieces.

Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where? 2. I've started an Elvis themed sleeve on my right arm that will focus on a big portrait of Elvis on my forearm, and I have a blossom tree with a sparrow on my chest that I started for a chest piece that I put on the back burner to do my arm and leg sleeves.

Do you plan on getting more?  I plan on at least doing sleeves on my left arm and leg to go with the sleeves on my right arm and leg, but I don't have any huge desire to do much more than that.  Friends have warned me off back (that's a lot more fucking coloring than I think I want in one place), side, and stomach pieces.  All tattoos are uncomfortable in one way or another, and some of the areas I've already hit have been extremely uncomfortable, but I'm not big on really painful areas that I don't really get to show off very often.  That's what tattoos are for in my opinion.  It's my expression, and the things that I enjoy, but the idea is that others can see the art and appreciate it too.

How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them?  My side of the family are a lot more accepting of my tattoos than my in-laws.  They don't make it awkward for me, and keep their opinion to themselves, but I know they can't stand them, and they've made their opinion clear with my wife over hers.
Most of my friends are tattooed to varying degrees, so no judgement there.  I wouldn't really hang out with someone that's gonna get butt hurt about a tattoo.
I've heard comments from time to time along the lines of why a clean cut guy wants to look like a dirty biker, or that coloring is for coloring books and not your body, but fuck them.  For the most part it's just awkward looks from strangers. Most people are content to just keep their mouths shut.

What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos? Probably showing up for a tattoo session and ending up in a chair next to my Company Commander from Afghanistan getting some really big pieces on his back.  He is an older guy that came across as really conservative, straight-laced, and he'd made fun of me and a buddy of mine for having a lot of tattoos during our time in Afghanistan.  It was just interesting in the sense of how much more common it is for people to be accepting of tattoos, interested in them, and finally making the decision to get one.

Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?  Those who are interested need to make peace with the idea that you are getting something that's gonna be with you the rest of your life.  Choose wisely.  I'm the type that couldn't give a shit about what I'm gonna think about my tattoos when I'm an old man, but there are many people that get a fucked up tattoo, and could definitely give more than a few shits.  Tattoo removal is a lot more expensive and a lot more painful than the tattoo itself.

Research your shop and your artist.  Is the place clean?  Does the artist use a new needle for every client?  Does he change gloves every time he touches something other than your body?  If your state requires it, does the shop and all the artists have their state licenses displayed?  And always check the artist's portfolio.  Make sure you're comfortable with his work.  Ask others, or fuck, google shops.  Find out who's reputable in your area.

What is your least favorite part of being tattooed?  My least favorite part of getting tattooed is about hour 2-3 when your skin is starting to get seriously pissed at you for doing this.  When you first start it's not too bad, and once I get past hour 3 I can put my mind elsewhere to push through without wanting to scream "Fuck!" every time we hit an area with color for a long period of time in a sensitive spot.

My advice to people who aren't tattooed is to expect discomfort, and be pleasantly surprised with the areas that aren't too bad.  I hate it when people ask me if it hurts.  Fuck yes it hurts!  If you really want a tattoo don't be a pussy and just deal with it.  If it's getting really bad there is a spray they can use to take some of the edge off, but it's not a miracle. You will still be in pain.

First fire of the season!  One of my favorite things about cooler weather, is lighting the first fire of the season in our fire place.  On cold nights, nothing beats curling up in your pi's with a comfy blanket, a warm fire and watching tv or reading a book.

My dogs love to curl up by the warm fire, and sometimes get a little too close for my comfort.  Winston is the worst about it! He will actually crawl right up next to the fireplace, and once his fur started smoking!

You can even make scented fire place starters to make your home smells a little more "outdoorsy" and help get the fire started!

On loss and love, A Pet Story.

Do you remember getting your first pet?  Perhaps the animal was already in your home before you ever arrived, or maybe is was something you begged your parents for.  Mine was good and kind and sweet and his was wild and loved to run.  This is the story of getting my very first dog(s).

My brother and I are only 2 years apart in age, and for as long as I can remember he has always been someone I would boss around, but really I was just being bossy for his protection.  I mean, I spoke for him half the time. It wasn't like he didn't like to speak, but we just had this uncanny recognition of each other that I just knew what he wanted.  I still think that it is this way, even as adults, we still look for that acceptance in each other.  However, this has nothing to do with my dog story, besides just giving you a little back ground on my family.

I was in second grade, at the time, and my brother had yet to start kindergarten.  I believe him and I had wanted a dog for as long as I could remember, and we even got his lame ass imaginary friends in on the  'dog-gettin' scheme.  I mean, what child doesn't want a pet at some point in their life.  I don't remember where this dog came from, but we finally got it.  We name her ho-ho (duh I love sweets) and it was near winter, so I think Santa has something to do with it.  The dog was a heeler mix and she was fluffy and loved to run, and my brother and I had the best time chasing her around our yard.  Soon winter turned into warm months and well, being a child of the 80's we had no choice but to play outside, ride our bikes, chase our dog and wait for the Book-Moblie to visit our small town.

Every week this library on wheels would come to our town, park in the parking lot of our local gas station and allow you to check out books and videos from our neighboring big city.  It was the highlight of my week!

My mom drove this super sweet light blue Monte Carlo.  My brother and I had gathered up the books we had checked out the previous week and were ready to get in the car and get our next bevy of rented books.  So, we loaded up and headed out.  Side Note: our new-ish dog loved to chase after cars.

We pulled swiftly out of our driveway and head down the street, when all of the sudden we felt a huge bump, (and this being like the late 80's we had no seat belts on) I looked up and my mom and then to my brother and then out the back car window.  For a 7 year old I did some quick calculations and realized we had just ran over our dog!  My mom threw on the brakes, put the car into park and leaped out of the car and towards where our beloved Ho-ho was lying.  When I started to cry, my brother started screaming "murderer! murderer!" at the top of his lung to my mom.  Needless to say this made a horrible situation worse.

After we got our of the car, I can't really remember what happened next because a)my dog had died and b) we were so obviously not going to get to go to the Book-Mobile.  Horrible.  It was a dark day in our household.

When my dad got home, we were of course bummed.  My brother and I had no dog and no new books.    We buried our dog in our back yard (We lived in the country, people, no laws were broken).  I thought that this would be the end of our dog days, but little did I know we would soon be welcoming not one, but two new dogs into our lives!

Ho-ho was missed, but shortly after her death, my dad loaded us up in his truck and off to the humane society we went.  Of course, when you take children to see baby animals, there is going to be a lot of disagreement on what baby animal is going to be chosen.  In my 7 year old mind, it felt like we were there for a long, long time and of course my brother liked a totally different dog than I did, so naturally we did the right thing and rescued both dogs.

His dog was a blue heeler.  It has one blue eye, and one brown.  I think he liked that dog because it's markings were so close to Ho-ho's markings.  It was a tiny, little dog with a lot of personality.  Drumroll please………….we named it bubblegum.

My dog was a white lab.  She was shy, and sweet.  I remember her being kind of fat for a puppy, but she was nice and cuddly and really that is all I wanted in a dog.  She, of course, was name lollipop.

On our ride home, my dog puked on me and my brother's dog peed on him.  I mean, we all kind of got started off on the wrong foot.  Once we got home though, we knew that this would be great.  And that is where my love for dogs started.

Clarsonic Brush.  I hopefully am getting one of these for christmas!  I have had a knock off one that officially broke, so I know the benefits of this brush is amazing.  The price tag is a hefty one, but what are the holidays for besides asking for something you wouldn't buy for yourself?

Ole Henriksen Skin Care.  Oh em gee, one of my favorite lines of skin care.  A great price point and who doesn't love to use stuff in bright sunny packaging?

First Aid Beauty.  I love the simplistic packaging and this stuff is seriously moisturizing.  Next time you are at sephora, ask for a sample of this stuff! Pretty amazing.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm.  I seriously love this and it is even better than acting as a sole foundation, as it has SPF in it as well!

Name or Alias: Mallary/Miss Malloween
Age: 25
Occupation: Medical Receptionist
Age of first tattoo: 18

Favorite tattoo: My favrorite tattoo is my moon on my right hand.  One of my best friends bought it for me for my birthday this year and it means a great deal to me.  I am obsessed with the moon, it reminds me that the people I love are looking at the same moon as me and it keeps us together.  My best friend passed when I was in highschool and we had an inside joke/story about the moon.  This is my favorite tattoo and it is my smallest one on my body.

Featured tattoo/location: The tattoos pictured are by the wonderful Steve Janowski from in Victoria, TX and the great Jett Radford of Houston, TX.
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo:  Primal Ink, Victoria, TX & Jett inks out of his home.  Super clean, very professional.

Please tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning? There are two featured on my arm-the moth on my lower right arm was my own design.  I came up with it and the quote during a transformation period in my life.  I wanted something to keep myself motivated and focused on my goals and dreams.  As for my upper right arm, I love the band Mastodon and had a friend pass away short after their new album, The Hunter, came out.  It spoke to me and I had to have the song title "Creature Lives" on my body.  I was living in Victoria, TX at the time, and the tattoo artist (Steve Janowski) I chose listenend to my reasoning and said it was funny because he used to open for Mastodon at one point in time.  Funny how that works out :)  As for the spiderwebs and peacock feathers, I love all things Halloween and all things beautiful/creative.  I really wanted it to portray my personality.

2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?  Yes, a friend and I have matching hip tattoos that say "Free Spirit" and I have another on my right hip that says "My Heart Still Beats".  I also have the count tattood on my right foot for my father.  He laughs just like the count.  I am looking into what I should get to honor my Mother.

3) Do you plan on getting more?  I do, but more than likely my feet.  I LOVE foot tattoos.  So awesome.

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? I have heard both good and bad, but I know my family and true friends love me with all their heart, no matter what is on my body.

5)
What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos? I went to one of my best friends Grandparents retirement home 4th of July party, and received so many compliments from the little old ladies at our table.  One of them told me she watches LA Ink and said it is too cool.  She said if she were younger she would get a tattoo.  A lot of older women stop my awesome fiance & I to compliment our work.  He receives so many compliments on his and it is adorable that the majority of his compliments come from old women.  This has nothing to do with his good looks, I am sure.  Haha!

6) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet? The best advice I can give to you is to make sure it is exactly what you want, that you are doing it for no one but yourself, and that you do not act on impulse when getting ANY tattoo.  Think it through!

7) What is your least favorite part of being tattooed? My least favorite part is that you are sometimes instantly judged by others.  I go through life with an open mind and an open heart, I do not like judging others by appearance.  When I first saw my fiance, his tattoos really drew me in.  It was like a story waiting to be told.  I was intrigued, I wanted to know all about them, why he had them, who from, etc.  As for me (and as I said eariler) I have received both good and bad remarks on my ink.  However, out of both, I have more good than bad.   Your body is a temple, but your body is also a beautiful blank art canvas.  Respect your body, love your body, tattoos are a release of creativity for both the artist and the customer.  For some, tattoos are a reminder of loved ones they've lost, happiness they want to hold on to, etc.  Self expression is a beautiful thing.  Respect your body, love yourself, you only live once.

Do you have any stories/advice to people who are not tattooed?  My advice is to not judge so quickly.  I dislike that people are judged based on tattoos...I have worked in the medical field for almost 2 years.  I have worked with disabled patients, psychiatric patients, I have also worked as an Ophthalmic Technician doing diagnostic testing on patients macula and retina for disease.  I am now a medical receptionist and going back to school to be an elementary teacher.  Never judge a book by its cover, you never know what lies within the pages.  May be the best novel you've ever read.  :)

Age: I'm a perfectly seasoned twenty-faux year old

Occupation: Corporate Trainer/Dream Chaser/Positivity Promoter/Actress/Burlesque Performer/Music Blogger/Unabashed Dork/Goofball

Where are you from: Kansas City, MO - the MidBest!! Woot! Woot!! <3<3

Favorite photographer to work with: My first shoot ever was with Vixen Pin-Up Photography. It was a present to myself for a major life accomplishment. I still to this day cherish  the photos from that shoot. They are a symbol of my strength and freedom - something that they were skilled enough to capture on film. I have no idea how those ladies do it, but they bring something out of me, some new inner beauty, every time. I'm always impressed with my sessions with them and they are still one of my favorites to shoot with, hands down.

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)
1. Vixen Pin-Up Photography, MUA by The Candy Shop, Hair by Vintage Flare (from my 1st shoot ever, awwww lol)
2. Ooh La La Boudoir by Hilary Hope Photography, MUAH by Amanda Adams
3. Paper Moon Photography by Charlie Girl, MUA by The Candy Shop, Hair by Get Your Locks Off

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? 1 year

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? The first "pin-up" I ever watched shoot was Katty DeLux (she was shooting at my very first shoot too and my jaw was just lying on the floor in awe, me thinking "I can't do that! She's incredible!!" So, I've always loved and admired her ;) Love me some Veronica Virgo, Sally Sparrow, Mosh - and of course the Classic Old Hollywood Starlets and Burlesque performers.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers? Stop Staring, Hell Bunny, Sourpuss, Bettie Page Clothing, Pinup Girl Clothing is like a dessert buffet for me - I must practice self control. Same with make-up, costume and wig sites - my imagination gets me into trouble sometimes lol

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? Not a photographer but he often painted from photos/sketches, so, I ADORE Gil Elvgren!  Everything he did, all of it <3 it would be a DREAM to be painted by him! Or, more currently, Les Toil - he gives a lady's curves the love they deserve <3

What is your favorite color and why? Green and Purple (eye color and fave color) plus they both go well with red hair #teamread <3

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? oh, gosh....I only get to pick one? Ok, Mae West - I think it would be fascinating.

How did you get your model name? Well, I'm kinda bad at remembering names, so I used to call everyone pet names (also to kind of pretend I was a southern belle with the permission to call anyone, "sugar, doll, etc" accents are fun lol)  anyway, and I always liked the use of "Pants or Britches, etc" as a last name. So, quickly my friends and peers turned my own affectations on me and I became "Kitten Pants" and O'Malley is my last name. Actually, for years, people who had trouble pronouncing my REAL first name would just call me K.P. O'Malley. I have name tags from previous jobs that have that on it. It was easier than correcting people constantly :)

What is your favorite city to visit and why? You know, I haven't had the privilege to travel very much, so, I'd have to say New York City but I think that Paris would be an absolute dream. I'd love to visit Australia as well - the pin-up scene down there is AMAZING!
Do you have a favorite song or artist? Yes, like 50 million of them! lol So, top 5: The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Led Zeppelin. This list is biased and life encompassing, because I also write for 2 music blogs, so my favorites change day to day. For example, I am really digging Little Comets - listening to them right now, actually lol

Do you want to help homeless pets this year?
There are many ways to do it. One is really easy. All you have to do is click Like.

I HAVE TEAMED UP WITH WAYWORD DOGS TO GET THIS MAGIC TO HAPPEN!
Throughout the month of December, Wayward Dogs Blog has been rallying fans to help her Beer Paws business page reach 1,000 Likes.

If we can do that by December 31, Beer Paws will donate $100 to our featured shelter of the month, KC Pet Project.
KC Pet Project is the non-profit animal shelter that serves Kansas City, Missouri. Thousands of animals pass through this program every year, and following many years as a high-kill shelter, KCPP achieved no-kill status this year.
Establishing more foster parents for pets has been one key to the program’s improvement. I’m happy to say that a dog was pulled into foster under Crystal's name just a few weeks ago – and adopted soon after.
Charlie the poodle
Another key element of KCPP’s success has been the establishment of play yards, where dogs get more exercise and socialization. Earlier in the month, the shelter had to raise $40,000 to improve the play yards to be in line with state standards.
Although that particular fiscal goal was met, there is always a need for donations to the shelter.
The $100 Beer Paws will donate, in addition to a percentage of all online sales for the month of December, will help feed and keep warm some dogs and cats this holiday season while they await their forever families.
By participating in my Like campaign, you can help this all happen.
As of this writing, the Beer Paws fan page has 771 Likes. That’s not bad, but time is running out.
We have 13 days to get 229 Likes. Will you help us get there?
To sweeten the deal, I’m offering a giveaway, open only to people who like Beer Paws on Facebook, and something else cool just got added to the pot.

I am donating my 2014 calendar that has been selling as a fundraiser for KC Pet Project.
So the winner of this giveaway will receive a bunch of Beer Paws swag and a Katty De Lux calendar.

BAKING!

Every year, for I think the past 5 years (?) my friends Bianca and Rebecca and I do a baking exchange. We each back four to five things, multiplied by three, so we have huge baskets to give to our friends and family during the holiday seasons.

It is always a fun time, and I always look forward to what my two gal pals will bake and bring to the exchange.  I always have to make homemade chex mix, Bianca always makes her yummy pretzels, and Rebecca makes the BEST chocolate crinkle cookies.  Those are standards, but each year we make something new and test it out.

I made mini lemon poppy seed muffins, along with chocolate covered peanut butter ritz crackers, chex mix, and seasoned oyster crackers.  Here are the recipes:

Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins
1/2 cup sweet creamy butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
2 large eggs, separated
1 1/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons poppy seeds
2 lemons, zest of, grated
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F Coat muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.  Add the egg yolks, one at a time  Beat well after each.

In a separate bowl, stir together the dry ingredients, poppy seeds, and lemon zest.  With the mixer on low speed, add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating two times with the buttermilk, then lemon juice, and then vanilla.  Beat just until smooth.  In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.  Gently fold them into the muffin batter until blended.

Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, 3/4-full.  Bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Cool for 5 minutes before removing to cool completely.  I sometimes sprinkle the muffin mixture with sugar prior to putting in the oven just to add a little extra sweetness.

Name or Alias: Gigi Fair
Age: 27
Occupation: pinup, esthetician, makeup artist, mom
Age of first tattoo: 17
Favorite tattoo: I love them all but the portrait of my mom is closest to my heart!
Featured tattoo/location: Pirate ship in stormy seas that covers my back!
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Steve Smith at Extreme Tattoo in Piqua, OH
about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning? I have a love of all things nautical and a few other nautical tattoos so this seemed fitting. I wanted to have stormy seas because I had just come out of a very difficult time in life. The tattoo was a cover up and I have a lot of trust in the artist so I left the rest of the details up to him. I think you get a better tattoo that way!
2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where? An angel on the side of my hip, a mermaid and ocean scene 3/4 sleeve on my left arm, An anchor behind my left ear, the eye of horus on the front of each shoulder, my full pirate ship back piece, a rose for each of my children , a spider/human morph , the word l'espoir (means hope in french), a very small star, and my mother's senior portrait all on my right arm. The words sink and swim on the outside of my hands, a skull and dia de los muertos couple on my right leg, a seahorse unicorn on my left leg, a hummingbird on my food and a small word on the other foot, stars on my side, a very small design at the bottom of my breast bone, and a raven in a frame on my ribs. Wow I have never had to list them like that!
3) Do you plan on getting more? Absolutely! I look at my body and still see lots of blank canvas.

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? When I first started they really didn't know what to think. I am lucky to have a very loving and supportive family! Now they just know that you see a person, not their tattoos.
When I started getting tattooed it wasn't as accepted in the workplace as it is now, so a lot of people didn't understand why I would still get them when I had to wear at least 3/4 sleeves in the summer! For a long time I had to cover up for work and my bosses didn't understand why I would continue to get tattooed and my even more tattooed friends didn't understand why I wasn't completely offended by this. I just continued doing what I wanted and thankfully now don't have to be concerned with covering them! I do live in a small town so I sometimes get some negative comments from strangers or what I call the "old lady stares" especially when I'm out with my kids! Yes I am a mother, and a damn good one even though I am tattooed! It doesn't bother me though, it just makes me giggle. The only thing I really don't like is when strangers ask me why I got them like I owe them an explanation.
5)What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos? Everytime a stranger wants to show me their one terrible tattoo because they see mine, or tell me what generic idea with 20 things incorporated in it that they want! I have also had strangers touch me to try to move clothing so they can see my work better too! I am amazed at others etiquette sometimes.
6) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet? cheap isn't always better! Do your research and don't get tattooed because its the cool thing right now, do it because you want too! It does bother me to see such young people get tattooed in the most visible places because its the trend.

7) What is your least favorite part of being tattooed? Do you have any stories/advice to people who are not tattooed? My least favorite part is just being uncomfortable when I am sitting for long sessions. That is almost worse for me than the pain! You know its going to hurt and some spots more than others, but that is part of the process! My advice for people who are not tattooed is use your manners, I really don't care wether you like them or not, please don't ask me where I got my tattoos done if you really have 0% interest in going. Also "Heeeyyyy girl nice tats" is never an appropriate pick up line :)

Name or Alias: Emily (Or Tugboat to my fiancé) Age: 18 Occupation: Full-time student and boarding kennel manager Age of first tattoo: 18
Favorite tattoo: My only one
Featured tattoo/location: Right outer Thigh Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Syndicate Tattoo; Manhattan, KS 66502
Please tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning?
I chose my tattoo because it’s been my motto for a long time. The tattoo is a quote that says: “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”  I have lived by this Dr. Seuss  motto my entire grade school career because I believe that in order for something to get done, and done right, you have to care about what you’re doing.
2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where? No, I don’t have nay other tattoos.  This was my first!

3) Do you plan on getting more? Yes Ma’am I do! I already went and got my next one appraised so that I can start saving up for it!
4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? My mom isn’t completely sold on the idea, and her mother is completely prepared to disown me because of this, but I don’t care. It’s my body, my art, my expressions.
5) What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos? The only thing that I’ve had happen with my tattoo so far is that it’s getting swollen, and I didn’t get the apostrophe put on the “It’s”... Once it’s all healed up, I’m going to go back and get it fixed.

6) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?  Take a friend with you. It does help. They’re there to keep you calm. While they’re doing the tattoo, RELAX! You’ll forget that it’s happening until the artist stops. Don’t mess with the tattoo once it’s done, and be sure to keep it clean and dry. ALSO! If it’s hurting to the point where you can’t bare it, find and aloe plant and put some of the goo on it. It’s natural and won’t clog your pores.
7) What is your least favorite part of being tattooed? Do you have any stories/advice to people who are not tattooed? My least favorite part right now is that it hurts all the time.  I’ve talked to two “veterans” of getting tattooed, and they both say that it’s normal, and that it’ll hurt for about 10 days before being better.

Favorite photographer to work with: I enjoy just about everyone I have worked with. However, Aly with Amour Photography has been so super easy to work with. We became fast friends and I feel the most comfortable with her, giving me better shots. In my opinion anyways. :)

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s) Amour Photography

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? I have been doing this for almost two wonderful years!

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? Hmmm, this is just so hard. I find some sort of inspiration with just about all of them!! The ladies who are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside have to be my favorite.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? I love Hellbunny dresses and they way they fit me! Other then that I am not picky about brands, I just love clothes.

Favorite Designers? No specific names come to mind but I do just adore the amazing skills of some of the smaller designers that make their stuff at home.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? I have to say that I have been super lucky to have shot with some photographers that I really wanted to work with. There are a few awesome photographers in the NW that I would love to work with still as well as down in California.

How did you get your model name? True to my Irish heritage Kiera means “dark Irish” in Gaelic. Usually given to those with dark hair or complexion. Clover just kind of followed suit after that. :)

What is your favorite city to visit and why? I LOVE PORTLAND! I love how absolutely weird it can be. Where people can be who they want to be. Every city has their down falls but mine rocks! There will never be anything like home.

Do you have a favorite song or artist? My music tastes ranges from Rap to show tunes. I really just cannot pin point a favorite.***Photo credits, Amour Photography HMU self for all but the purple outfit, Hair: J'monique creations the salon, Makeup by Stormie Sparks
