*This is a new start that I am going to be doing, pre-new years resolutions.  This is just little things that I want to do to improve upon myself, whether it be mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.  If you want to join in via Twitter use hashtag #90DaysToABetterMe or tag me via Facebook @kattydelux*

Day One: Drink at 64 ounces of water per day. Seems simple, but is sometimes hard.
Day Two: Walk/Run my neighborhood.  Approximately 30 minutes at a brisk pace.

Day Three: cut out soda
Day Four: self reflection.  Just 10-15 minutes a day to clear my thoughts, re-set, and continue on.
Day Five: read something inspiring everyday. Whether it be poetry, quotes, a story or more pages from my current read.

Day Six: moisturize my skin every night.  This seems like a dumb thing, but I want to be more committed to my whole body's skin, not just my face and neck
Day Seven: Drink my juice (fresh juice made by the Mr.) everyday.

Day Eight: Write, at least, one letter per month to someone that doesn't live near me.
Day Nine: Hug the Mr. everyday.
Day Ten: Give one random compliment each day.
Day Eleven: Brush my hair every night. I read that this will help with growth and maintanence.
Day Twelve: I am going to stop washing my hair with Shampoo everyday.  I know it is bad for me and my hair.
Day Thirteen: Get fresh flowers for my house.  Small indulgence, with a big impact
Day Fourteen: Sing loudly in the shower, or car.  Gurl, you better werk.
Day Fifteen: Do some math.  I really need to work on my skills in math.  You know, use it or lose it.
Day Sixteen: Find a new signature scent.
Day Seventeen: Give to a charity. (Mine is KC Pet Project)
Day Eighteen: Plan a date night each week. No tv, no blogging, just fun.
Day Nineteen: Buy organic when I can.
Day Twenty: Start taking supplements for my skin, hair, nails, and health. (Biotin and Evening Primrose)
Day Twenty One: Floss my teeth daily. (I only do it twice a week)
Day Twenty Two: Do yoga. For my mind, body, and health
Day Twenty Three: Write.  Make lists, make stories, make dreams.  All on paper
Day Twenty Four: Eat yogurt.
Day Twenty Five: Talk to my siblings more often.
Day Twenty Seven:  Celebrate each season, with a seasonal gift
Day Twenty Eight:  Learn to make a new style of drink.
Day Twenty Nine:  Have one "ethnic" food night each month and make some exotic.
Day Thirty: Set goals that are attainable but makes to stretch to get to them

facebook: http://www.facebook.com/stevieohphotography
tumblr: http://stevieoetjengerdes.tumblr.com/
website: http://www.stevieoetjengerdes.com/

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in New York but having been living in the Boston area of Massachusetts for the last ten years.
How did you get your store/business started?
I don't have a business per se; I have always loved shooting and all aspects of photography, a few years ago I started photographing models and have been networking with other photographers and models ever since. I am thinking about what my next step will be in my photography endeavor as we speak
What inspires you or how do you get inspire?
I'm often inspired by other artists work. I also draw inspiration from every day situations and feelings. I have a soft spot for abandoned and derelict architecture which is where my shooting began, so that tends to be the type of location I find myself working with models.
How long have you been operating and what is some of your favorite places to shoot?
I've always been interested in photography, but started seriously about three years ago. I love forgotten places, old architecture; abandoned houses, schools, factories, hospitals, any place that has been left behind and has a story to tell.
What celebrity would you most like to wear/indorse/use/ or shoot with?
Rose McGowan. I have always been a fan of her as an actress and I think she would be fun to shoot with!
If you had to use only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
I'd have to say passionate; I put my whole self into everything I do.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
I find myself frustrated by ignorant and closed minded people and the ideas they throw around.
What are your favorite websites?
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
That I'm not an exciting person (laughs), I lead a pretty average life.
Favorite book/TV show/Movie Genre?
I'm not a big reader. Horror is hands down my favorite movie genre, and lately I'd have to say The Walking Dead is my favorite TV show.

Nearly Famous Pinup Wednesday ~ Devyn Beth

Devyn Beth // Blog // Facebook // Esty

Age: 31

Occupation: Real Housewife of Kansas City (sort of) I am a mom to two super cute kiddos, I also blogwww.mavynmom.blogspot.com, and try to sell my handmade wares on Etsy, http://www.etsy.com/shop/mavynmade, and I get to work part time at the most fab boutique in Kansas City, Retro Vixen.

Where are you from: Kansas City, but the Kansas side of town

Favorite photographer to work with: Vixen Pin Up Photography... they are goddesses of all things pin up

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)  The pink dress and blue swimsuit photos were taken by Vixen Pin-up Photography, Hair by Nikki Moreno-Whipple,  Makeup by Candypants Cunningham.  The beach pic was also taken by Vixen Pin-Up Photography with MUAH done by me.  The cupcake photo was taken by Paper Moon Photography by Charlie Girl with hair by Nikki Moreno-Whipple, and makeup by Charlie Girl.

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
The pink dress photo was from my very first photo shoot with Vixen Pin-up Photography.   The cupcake photo was taken by Paper Moon Photography by Charlie Girl,  I love that photo because everyone who knows me knows I am a cupcake addict.  The beach photo was a very quick snap shot taken by Vixen Pin-up Photography at a fun event at Retro Vixen, it turned out so cute that I decided to have it “finished.” The blue swimsuit picture is also from my first photo shoot, it’s pretty special because it is was published in the July 2012 issue of The Cat’s Meow magazine,  it was my first published photo and hopefully not the last.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?  Well, I dabbled in runway modeling at the age of 6 when I was chosen to model for a local Department Store Back to School fashion show... and then I went on like a 23 year hiatus!  My first PinUp photo shoot was in 2011, I’ve been obsessed with all things pinup for some time and my sweet husband purchased a photo shoot for me for Mother’s day… best gift ever.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?  I follow Monica Lewis, who was quite the pin up and starlet way back when, on facebook. She just celebrated her 90th birthday and is still as cute as ever, she always shares fascinating stories of her hay day as well as her everyday life. I just love her!  As far as modern pinups go, I have a major girl crush on Doris Mayday, and I am pretty fond of a certain platinum pinup from the Paris of the plains that goes by the name of Katty.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?  I drool over everything Pinup Couture produces, Voodoo Vixen always seems to fit me just right, Michael Kors and Betsey Johnson have always been my dream designers… but at heart I am a thrift store shopper, so usually I am just looking for a certain style of clothing and not so much a label.  In fact, that green and white dress in the beachy pic was a thrifty find and only $6.00!

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? If I could go back in time , Andy Warhol would be the most epic of photographers/artists to work with.

What is your favorite color and why?  Pink!!! I am a very girly girl, and pink just makes me feel all the more girly.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? The Dalai Lama  I remember seeing him on Oprah years ago, and it rocked my whole religious outlook.  He was most evidently the most holy person I’ve ever encountered (even if only on tv.)  I could almost visually see his goodness and purity radiating around him.  I would love the opportunity to sit and learn from him.

How did you get your model name?  Well my model name is just my name-- kind of boring I guess, but I feel weird naming myself.  I keep thinking that someday someone will just bestow the most fabulous of pinup names upon me-- kind of like a knighting ceremony only with big boobs, victory rolls, and red lipstick!

We finished all our Christmases.  It was a wonderful way to wrap up our year.  We spent time in Springfield with my family, and then head to spend time with the Mr.'s family this weekend.  The Mr. and I always are gone from our actual home on Christmas Day, but due to the way it fell this year, we got to be in our home for the actually day!

Do you have any fun plans for New Year's Eve?  Is your family one that celebrates big for NYE, or do you keep it more low key?

Stay Sweet,
Katty

It is the last Monday of 2012, and I have to say, I am so excited.  Tonight we will get to read our memory jar, and possibly with the inclement weather, we may just be spending the evening at home with our pups, a pizza, and lot of movies.

Do you have any special plans for ringing in the new year?

Nearly Famous Pinup Wednesday ~ Judy Kelly

Judy Kelly // Facebook //

Age: 44

Occupation: Massage Therapist

Where are you from: I grew up La Grange ( a suburb of Chicago )  I still reside in the suburbs.

Favorite photographer to work with: Oh gosh, there are so many.  But  I have shot twice with  Vavoom Pinups in Chicago and favor them for Holiday pinup. For a personal project my first choice would be Dan  Annelli of G & D Studios in Hanover Park , and most recently I had an awesome experience shooting with Switch Blade Betties.

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)   Vavoom Pinups in Chicago , G & D Studios in Hanover Park, DJ Woodard Photography in Bolingbrook and Switchblade Betties

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
I had the opportunity to work with Calas Pinups here in Chicago, and  one of the photos quickly became a favorite "unthemed" session of mine because it is classic.Photography Michael Calas, MUAH: Michael Calas

The Holiday image was my first Pinup Session and means the most to me, I did the shoot with my bestie, Spunky, because my real passion is pit bull advocacy and I hope to change the perception of this misunderstood breed.  Vavoom Pinups Chicago, MUA: Julia Hamilton, Hair Sara Allott

The B & W photography was a personal project that I had wanted to do for quite some time. It was based on my personal collection and love of Vintage full slips and inspired by the films, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof & Butterfield 8.   G & D Studios (Dan)  MUAH: Megan Bach

I'm also a huge fan of Retro styled swimsuits, so a  local photographer and  I collaborated on some casual Modern poolside pinup with a retro twist.  DJ Woodard Photography MUAH: Angela Hall

Most recently, I wanted to try a  new style of pinup (for me)  Tiki.  And coincidentally Switch Blade Betties was traveling to Chicago.
Switch Blade Betties , MUAH: Liz Carrillo
How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
I am certainly not a model, just a fan of retro styled photography.  I did my first session in 2010, to benefit a pitbull advocacy group.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
Although I admire many of the great pin-ups from the past, I try not to model myself after anyone in particular. I may borrow a wardrobe idea or theme from those classic beauties, but when it comes down to it, I can really only be myself.  After all there can only be one Bettie, and one Marilyn. What made them so special is that they created those persona's. To create oneself and be really spectacular at it, how wonderful is that?  It's been said, "It's better to be a first rate version of yourself, than a second rate version of someone else" : )

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?  For pinup styled clothes I favor Golightly dresses, Stop Staring and Bernie Dexter.  Rago for undergarments and Esther Williams for swimwear.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? Gianni Bozzacchi

What is your favorite color and why?  Silver, for its sparkle, and my love of platinum gold.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? John Dillinger at the The Norwood Pines Supper Club in Northern Wisconsin.

How did you get your model name?  Quite simple, it is my first and middle name.  I don't use a stage name.  After all, I'm not famous enough !

A Sweet January Giveaway with Sugar Plum Robots

SugarPlum Robots // Etsy //

In December, I introduced you to SugarPlum Robots and she was sweet enough to donate some goodies for a giveaway!!!

I love how inventive her products are! they allow you to wear her handmade items throughout the year, with interchangeable items.  Get it out, scope out her store and then get entered to win!

How did you get your store started?
I was already familiar with a button maker because I worked at a independent print shop for 5 years and we did buttons on the side.  That business went under and I eventually started working at a factory....not really my thing!  I was cruising on ebay and saw this person making jewelry out of button medallions and I thought that looked like fun.  I didn't realize all of the possibilities there was with a 1 inch and 2.25 inch button machines.  Now 3 years later...my store is one of the biggest button/accessories stores online!!

What inspires you?
all things vintage, old and odd!  I have a "dark, odd, spooky" shop section that has 200 items in it.  The other 700 items are all vintage/retro fun, cute but still unique items.

How long have you been open and what is some of your favorite items?
I've had a ebay store for a few years. I just started this etsy store 7 months ago....I've had other etsy accounts but shhhh we can't talk about that:)  I'm always really into what I'm doing at the moment...I just did these sets of vintage figurines on fun background buttons...I tried to do the same thing with vintage halloween figures but it didn't have the same appeal.  I also just did a vintage camper/rv/airstream set, that was a lot of fun.  Honestly a lot of my favorite items are NOT even listed on my online stores because of copyright issues.  I vend locally and sell 1,000 of comic, cartoon, novelty, movie, music and just down right COOL stuff!!

what celebrity would you most like to wear/indorse/use your items?
Elvira, Deborah Harry, Punky Brewster (when she was young), Siouxsie Sue, Depeche Mode band members, Elizabeth Fraser...I admire MANY movie directors but because of there age and style I do not think they would wear my pins (or jewelry:)

if you had to use only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

Ode to Shoes

$

I am a die hard shoe fanatic.  Most of my friends know this, and when they need a pair of shoes, they know where to come, and who to come to.

I call my shoes, a collection, because really, they are a collection. A shoe is always going to fit, no matter what time of the month it is.  A shoe can make or break an outfit.  You might have the most amazing dress, makeup is looking perfect, and your hair is your crowning glory, but if you are rocking a clog on your tootsies, well I would say, your outfit is broken.

I am never bummed out when I am shopping for shoes, and I usually never leave empty handed.  Over the years the heel may have grown in inches, but I love them all the same.

If I find a woman that says she is not a "heel girl", I take it as a personal challenge.  I want to help shape the stigma that heels have.  Heels should be viewed as the empowerment of females.  Shoes have the ability to make you look sharp.  They have the ability to make you look fun, and they also have the ability to make you look dominant.

Give you shoes some height and they will give you the world.

Sunday Recipe Revamp

One thing that I love more than anything is a good casserole.  I grew up on casseroles, from the sunday church dinner, to week nights before sporting events.  I think it is something about the amount of love I know went into making a delicious baked delight.

For a new series, I thought it might be fun to do a vintage recipe revamp.  Take some of my favorite recipes, that perhaps I know my grandmother made, or mother, and revamp them to make them more modern, healthier and enjoyable!

Broccoli Casserole
from Maria Miller

2 - Ten ounce packages chopped broccoli
2 cups minute rice, uncooked
1 package or 2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
2 cans water
1/4 cups diced onion
1 stick margarine, melted

Butter large casserole dish (2 1/2 to 3 quarts). Mix together all ingredients, stirring in margarine last.  Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Revamped Broccoli Casserole

2 cups of fresh broccoli, stems removed and cut into florets
2 cups of brown rice, uncooked
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar
1 1/2 cup shredded parmesean/asiago/romano mix
2 cups of Better Than Condensed Soup
2 cans water
1/4 cup diced onion
1 stick butter, melted

Butter large casserole dish (2 1/2 to 3 quarts). Mix together all ingredients, stirring in margarine last.  Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.  I like to top mine with a little sprinkling of toasted breadcrumbs, mixed with fresh parsley.  Put it under the broiler for a few second to crunch up the topping and serve immediately.

I am in love, and it is with a company that has an amazing message! Delicious Dames is just a sweet little group of amazing women, who want to deliver the message, internationally, that YOU, just the way you are, is quite an amazing package!

Delicious Dames is a website designed to help shape the perceptions women have of themselves, the media, and overall body wellness. Our audience is anyone who embodies our mission to promote body wellness in America.

The Content on the site is meant to compliment and support any advice or treatment you may be currently undergoing from a health care professional. If you or someone you know has an Eating Disorder, seek professional attention immediately.

One thing that I am asked constantly in about body image.  I will tell you, I haven't always had a 'body positive' outlook.  Throughout junior high and high school, I was in gymnastics and cheerleading, and if there was ever a sport where you are always conscious of your body, those two sports are the top of the leader board.  I remember thinking that I never wanted to weigh over 100 pounds.  That is the being of the end.

I am not so sure as to why we put so much effort into weighing a certain number, but I know I am guilty of looking at the scale, cringing, then wanting to skip lunch.  I want to finally know in my head and heart that I am perfection, just the way I am.  I want to strive to be healthy, happy, and fabulous.

Please be sure to check out this wonderful website and community, and take the pledge yourself!  I know you will love it

I have many favorites, but I selected these few to show a bit of range in pinup and makeup styles, since I do many types of modeling.  (1) Red Umbrella: I like how all the colors pop and the nature included in this picture angle with my face towards the overcast sun from my second shoot with Fallen Apple Photography.  (2) Patriotic: I had wanted to do a shoot in this handmade dress I designed for a while, and when I found out about upcoming pinup magazine submission themes related to it, I collaborated on the concept with the wonderful team of MUAH Stevie Rosalie and photographer Joey Couture.  I LOVE how this set turned out, and it is one of my favorite pinup shoots to date.  (3) Goth Glam: This photo came about when I wanted to shoot a "glitz & glam" theme for a magazine submission that I had planned entirely differently.  My original photographer dropped out at the last minute and I saw a makeup inspiration on (Sabina) a MUA's page, so I came up with a different idea, found a new photographer in As You Wish and together, we created this finished look.  Whenever I show my portfolio or people see this picture on my page, they always have nice things to say, so it's not only one of my favorites, its a fan favorite.  :)  It was also the cover for that magazine, so I couldn't have asked for a much better turn of events.  (4) Pink Bunny:  One of my nicknames is bunny, and I wanted to add a touch of alternative style to my pinup look, so I created this spring/Easter themed outfit for my first shoot with Ted Scanon.  I liked that he was familiar with the Vargas girl style, and I like the glow effect that seems to add to the soft cuteness of it.  (5) Harley Quinn: I like to cosplay/costume as characters, so sometimes I'll add a bit of pinup fun or expression to those shoots, as well.  My makeup artist Lexxx FX Studios whipped up a very comfortable version of her facepaint look, and the costume (and my easygoing and amusing photographer, Niels Johnson-Laird) made it very easy to get into character.  The colors really stand out here, too.  One interesting fact about many of the pinup shoots I have done in studio is that I have introduced photographers with no pinup experience to creating that way.  I see that they have an eye for lighting and angle when I pick them, and I add a lot of the poses and looks in the style to make it easier to photograph.  I like to expand their artistic abilities by trying something new, and so far, that risk has turned out wonderfully.  (6) Catwoman: Though I would like to own/create an outfit in vinyl with the accurate stitching from the Batman Returns costume, this is my recent version of her, and I like how the city background makes the outfit stand out.  It also shows my dedication to costuming/modeling, when you realize that it was over 100 degrees outside the day this was taken, and being covered head-to-toe in black PVC is incredibly hot.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
Technically modeling since a young age (just playing dress up) to work in high school then the past few years more diving right in to create all kinds of looks and art in print/live/runway.  I like working with fellow creatives and showing off their hard work, as well as mine.  I have been enjoying photography of many kinds for as long as I can remember, and I do practice those skills as well (sometimes with nature/buildings and other times with models).

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
Bettie Page is my favorite pinup model, with a classic curvy form celebrating the womanly shape and a great personality that shined in photos.  She could make a shot look easy and fun or naughty.  I am inspired by many of the styles from the 1940s & 1950s and combine them and/or modernize them to create my own pinup looks.  Old movies with actresses like Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Jayne Mansfield and more all contributed to my idea of glamour.  Artists like Alberto Vargas and Gil Elvgren added to the playfulness of the pinup photo.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?
I like many of the vintage-inspired outfits on Pinupgirlclothing.com, but locally, we have a designer, V Vintage, who makes adorable vintage-styled clothing for all sizes (as well as sells truly vintage clothing, from many eras).  Generally, I like Betsey Johnson as a well-known modern designer, since she makes both classic styles and fun party outfits.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be?
Laura Dark for my gothic avant-garde style and Roy Varga for pinup, though the list I would love to work with is very long.  Annie Leibovitz and Bunny Yeager are female photographer inspirations, as well.

What is your favorite color and why?
Usually somewhere between a blue red and royal blue, so anything in-between, like purple, but I also like candy pinks, black and electric blue.  Anything that works with my skin tone is usually what I like, especially bright colors like fuchsia.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be?
Michael Jackson.  A fellow creative and talented Virgo, I grew up with his fashion/musical/dancing/charitable influence, and it brought me a lot of joy over the years.  I love talking to imaginative people who understand the need to express themselves artistically and who appreciate any time others enjoy their hard work.

How did you get your model name?
It is actually my 'superhero' name, given to me by college friends writing a comic about our core social group, created from my power to turn anything said into something funny and naughty that would come to life, the 'perv' sound and my love of Catwoman, the 'Purr' spelling, as a female heroine/villain, since I have an affinity for cats, whips (just as props) and shiny vinyl/PVC.  I use it as my model name because I've never seen it with the same spelling (so it's fairly unusual) and it keeps the confusion down when there are multiple models about with the same name being called, say, at a fashion show.  I have found that it is often mispronounced, however.  It actually sounds like Purr-VUHR-jhuh, outloud, NOT Purr-vuhr-SEE-uh.  :)  Haha.
